Rugged Oak Canine Camp is seeking a reliable, experienced dog handler to work alongside the owner in daily operations and help maintain a structured, safe, and positive environment for all dogs in our care.
This is a hands-on role in a group daycare and boarding setting. The right candidate is confident, observant, and takes pride in maintaining high standards of care, cleanliness, and structure.
This position is designed to grow into a leadership/assistant manager role over time for the right candidate.
Position Details
- Part-time: Approximately 3 days per week
- Typical shift: Approximately 6 hours
- Starting pay: $15/hour
- Opportunity for increased responsibility and pay over time
Responsibilities
- Supervise and safely manage group play
- Read and respond to dog behavior appropriately
- Maintain a clean and organized facility throughout the day
- Follow and help reinforce structured routines
- Work closely with the owner to maintain consistent standards and operations
Requirements
- Prior experience working with dogs (daycare, boarding, vet, grooming, training, etc.)
- Strong understanding of dog behavior and body language
- Ability to confidently handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically active environment
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Reliable transportation
- Physical ability to withstand being jumped on by dogs of various sizes
Ideal Candidate
- Calm, assertive, and attentive
- Takes initiative and notices what needs to be done
- Not easily overwhelmed in a group dog environment
- Committed to a long-term role and able to provide consistent, reliable availability over time (this is not a temporary or short-term position)
- Interested in growing into a larger role with increased responsibility
- Experience in the dog industry is strongly preferred
- May already work with dogs and is looking for more consistency, hands-on experience, or opportunity for growth
Important Notes
This role requires consistency and reliability. We are looking for someone who wants to be part of the business long-term and can grow into a more independent position as needs evolve.
This is not a passive role. You will be actively engaged with dogs and responsible for maintaining a safe group environment at all times.
